Biodata
Prof. Özcan Demirel was born on the 1st of March in 1943 at Sapanca, Adapazarı in Turkey. He graduated from Ankara – Gazi Teacher Training College, Department of English Language Teaching in 1964 and was awarded his PhD degree in Curriculum and Instruction in 1979. He worked at Hacettepe University, Faculty of Education as a full professor and taking several administrative positions such as department Chair, acting Dean and University Senate Member. He retired from Hacettepe University in May 2010. At present, he has been teaching at the department of ELT at the Faculty of Education, Cyprus International University after his retirement from Hacettepe University in 2010.
Prof. Demirel is the author of 20 books on education and the co-author of 15 books on English and English Language Teaching. He also presented 120 papers and published 90 articles on curriculum development, teacher education and English language teaching. He has supervised 51 PhD and 52 MA theses on curriculum development and teaching English as a foreign language so far. He has worked in different educational projects of the World Bank, UNESCO; UNICEF, European Union and the Council of Europe as the national coordinator for Turkey. At present, he is the president of Turkish Association of Curriculum and Instruction and also the terrm president of 20 national education associations platform in Turkey.
